How I Applied Memory Flipping to Add Joy In My Past
and finally celebrated my dream coming true as teenager!
When I came across this quote, I was astonished.
It’s framed on my desk already 5 years now. It is mind-blowing to realise that tomorrow is based on what you believe now and that you can affect the process now and every moment. So, I tried rewriting my beliefs, eliminating self-limiting beliefs etc. I found benefit in such exercices. Still, I thought something was missing from this sequence and went on a quest to find it.
“Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.”
The road I walked was not new.
I read a lot about rewriting your past as a means to fuel your today and future with more empowering beliefs.
Rewriting my past wasn’t also good enough for me. Felt like a rejection, a deletion of my past, my family, my whole life. That I was 100% liar. So I continued the quest.
Then I read that our beliefs are shaped by what we have experienced. That, of all that we have experienced, we treasure only some, what we call memories. Then that memories are created when we attach feelings on events. That the attachment of a feeling, positive or negative, is what forces our brain to save an event as memory.
So I added my self on top:
Your feelings become your memories,
Your memories become your experiences,
Your experiences become your beliefs,
That hit another home run!
If our feelings from past experiences and memories define our destiny, are we then sentenced to a given future?
I was lost until I came across a memory flipping training and I took it. Of course the training provides a bunch of details not covered here.
At high level, the steps to follow are:
- Identify a root memory from your past that is related to a self-limiting belief or habit, such as a good dinner by someone who loves you, like your mum, always contains pasta…
